Blinky

by: Sylvie & Binky Binky is 6 ish She was saved from a shelter and would probably not have been noticed by the rescuer if she had 4 legs. She was about one when Jon ( my husband ) and I adopted her. She was scooting on her chest at the time and Jon was determined to build wheels for her. So after a few trials and 4 sets of fancy rigs and the help of Cesar Millan (she was… Read more »

Encourage Courtney

I am not what I have done but what I have overcome Courtney Jones (23) was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in February. Due to an infection in her stomach, the Dr’s had to amputate both her legs in order to save her life. Courtney epitomizes COURAGE. I didn’t know Courtney until her best friend Caroline (a remarkable person herself) called me to ask if I could photograph the first fundraiser she was organizing. Courtney spent 5 months in… Read more »

By: Allegra Cohen Happiness isn’t wanting for anything more or less. It’s in finding the stream of gratitude that runs through our veins in the present moment. It’s in the in-between of setting a goal and watching its successful completion. It’s in knowing that if the goal isn’t completed, it’s ok. It’s taking in the positive breath and breathing out what doesn’t feel right. “Have a good life” I heard her say.  I was standing in line at the optical department at Costco…uploading to my Instagram, and I looked up to see an older woman speaking to a teenager. “I can help number 10″ an employee said. I was holding the little pink tab numbered 11. Oh great, not too much longer I thought. “You know why I say have a good life?” she asked him. Now I was curious. I love to hear wise… Read more »

scar

My scar makes me happy. That could sound strange to a lot of people, but it’s the truth. Like the stem of a flower, it keeps me grounded and growing. It represents the most challenging hurdle I’ve faced: Crohn’s Disease. I understood that even in the depths of survival, if I had a positive attitude, I could do anything. I don’t choose to attach my scar to painful memories anymore. I choose to see the scar pointing upwards, as my own personal “yad”, guiding me to… Read more »

Courage

“Courage is found in unlikely places” - J.R.R. Tolkien …for a person to find positivity in difficult times… that’s true courage. Can you think of one person that you have known in your life who ALWAYS has a smile on their face? Hayley was such a person. No matter what health issues Hayley faced, I recall her all through high school and later when we reconnected as a truly inspirational, positive and appreciative person. Hayley’s brother shared this yesterday and when I… Read more »
