Mothers Day

Mother’s Day by Debbie Samson Stein

To My Dearest Children,Mother’s Day is coming up, and I thought I should tell you what I would like . This way there’s no guilty panic or last minute purchasing of flowers or presents So, this is what I would like, this year and every year after; it’s pretty simple really.I would like you to be a decent human being.I would like you to be who you are, but don’t be an asshole.I would like you to work hard at everything you do, because life is too short not to give it everything you’ve got.

I would like you to ask for help when you need it.

I would like you to help others when they need it.

When you screw up, and you will, more than once, I would like you to own it, because it’s the screw-ups that make the victories sweeter.

I would like you to travel, because the world is huge and you are one part of it.

I would like you to know that even when we hate each other, I will never stop loving you.

I would like you to feed your curiosity.

I would like you to find a way to do what you love

I would like you to respect every human being’s right to be who they are.

I would like you to sometimes be more interested in someone else than in yourself.

I would like to know that you are flawed and you are extraordinary. There is no one else like you.

I would like to know that I would lay down my life for you both

I would like to realize how lucky you are every once in awhile even if only for an instant.

I would like you to know love, even if it means getting hurt.

I would like you to relax and not feel guilty about it.

I would like you to know life can be brutally hard sometimes.

I would like you to know that you can choose happiness even when the dark side offers you cookies.

And I wouldn’t mind breakfast in bed.

See, simple.

Love you always with all my heart and soul

Message from my 16 year old son today, I couldn’t have asked for a better gift: “Yes it can be exhausting, yes it can be draining, but my mom can do it! Being a single mother and raising two teens is a full time profession my mom has absolutely excelled at, she’s single handily done everything in her power to make me happy. I have a super mom, she gets up every morning to wake me up, drives me everywhere, she will do everything in her power to make me smile, and succeeds, I couldn’t have asked for such an amazing special mother, you honestly deserve mother of the year award! You’re rocking it. I’m so proud of you, reaching you’re goals, working you’re ass off, and to know its all for you’re kids, you’re just so special, thank you for being so loving and amazing. I love you so much !!!!”
